Facebook may soon scrap its rule that bans kids under 13 years old from signing up, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The system would allow kids to use the social networking site under parental supervision by linking their accounts to their parents' accounts.

The company is reportedly testing a system by which parents could decide who their kids could add as friends and what applications they could use. It would also charge parents for games and apps their kids purchase.

Kids already regularly skirt Facebook's age limit by lying about when they were born. A Consumer Reports survey in 20122 found 7.5 million of the site's 20 million registered users were under 13.

The Journal cites anonymous Facebook employees close to the project.
