Health Canada has recalled more than 37,000 youth bicycles sold at Canada Tire stores across the country due to reports of the pedals falling off.

In five reported cases of injuries, the pedal detached and the rider fell. The injuries ranged from bruising to an arm fracture, Health Canada said in a recall notice Wednesday.

The recall includes Supercycle SC1800 mountain bikes sold from December 2011 to July and imported from China by Dorel Distribution Canada.

Consumers can take recalled bikes to Canadian Tire for free repairs.
