The home of Hard News and Straight talk scored record ratings during its special live coverage of the Fight for the Cure charity boxing match in which Trudeau won on a TKO in the final round.
"We are absolutely thrilled at these numbers, it was a great chance for a whole bunch of Canadians that had never watched Sun News to tune in for the very first time and see us at our absolute finest," said Dennis Matthews, director of marketing for Sun News Network. "Considering we're not even available in one out of two households in Canada, this is a great victory."
The entire broadcast averaged 92,000 viewers with the 30-minute period around the red vs. blue bout scoring 102,000 watchers - the biggest audience to date for the station.
Despite some hand-wringing by the chattering classes about the brutish violence of boxing, the Ottawa ballroom packed full of hollering politicians and living rooms full of cheering Canadians show that plenty of people still love a good fight.
"We said we were going to do politics differently from the get-go, and it was definitely delivered there," Matthews said.
