SPRUCE GROVE, AB - Police are looking for clues after the bodies of a man and a woman were found in a rural home just west of Edmonton.

Stony Plain/Spruce Grove RCMP showed up at the house, southeast of Spruce Grove, Alta., on Friday when a man called saying he found his two friends dead inside.

The identities of the deceased are not being released pending an autopsy scheduled for Monday, but police said the deaths are being treated as suspicious.

"We're not sure how the deaths occurred. We can't say yet until the medical examiner has seen them and we can say for sure that it's not natural causes," said Const. Barb Roy.

Roy said there is no reason to believe drugs were involved and gave few details as to the condition of the bodies, which have been transported to the medical examiner's office in Edmonton.

Neighbours, friends and family are being questioned, but there is no effort being done to find any suspects involved in the deaths, according to Roy.

Roy Cust, a long-time local resident who lives down the road from the house, had not heard of the deaths and said he wasn't aware of any kind of illegal activities in the area.

Other residents said there is not a lot of crime in the area and few seem to know much about what went on.

Chris Dahmer, who lives across the road, was driving by the scene just as police were wrapping up their initial investigation and said the area is usually "pretty quiet."

Roy said there is no reason for people in the area to feel at risk, but they are asking anyone with information to contact them.
