Police received a 911 call to a home in Drummondville, an hour northeast of Montreal, around 9 p.m. Monday evening. Officers found the bodies of a 49-year-old man and a 46-year old woman.
Provincial police tracked a 63-year-old suspect to the town of Asbestos, further to the east, around 10:30 p.m. He was in his car in the parking lot of a bar, holding a gun, police said.
Officers tried to negotiate with the man for several hours, but he shot himself around 2 a.m. Tuesday, police said. It still isn't clear if the suspect knew the victims.
Montreal police have taken over the investigation. A provincial directive stipulates that an outside police force must investigate whenever a citizen is injured or killed during a police operation.
