OTTAWA - The Mounties are offering a pat on the back to fellow police forces in their search for suspected killer Luka Rocco Magnotta.

"I'm very impressed with the speed and the developments that the Montreal and the Ottawa police are making and it sounds like they have it all in hand," said RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson on Thursday. "And, hopefully, we can assist in finding him."

Police are hunting for Magnotta, 29, in connection to a gruesome case that has shocked Canadians and made headlines around the world, involving a dismembered torso found in Montreal, as well as a hand and foot mailed to Ottawa.

Interpol is overseeing the global manhunt, issuing what it calls a 'Red Notice' for Magnotta's arrest "to its 190 member countries."

"Interpol Red Notices serve to communicate to police worldwide that a person is wanted by a member country and request that the suspect be placed under provisional arrest pending extradition," said the international police organization in a statement.

Police began their investigation on Tuesday, when a rotting human foot was mailed from Montreal to the Conservative Party of Canada's Ottawa headquarters.

Later in the same day, police intercepted another package from Montreal containing a human handed addressed to the Liberal Party's national offices.
