TORONTO - A Mississauga, Ont., mom is now charged with murder in the "previously unexplained" death of her three-year-old daughter last fall.
Police say the toddler, Niyati Jha, was brought to a medical clinic on Sept. 20, 2011.
"After further examination, the child was transported to the Hospital for Sick Children in critical condition and placed on life-support," police said Monday.
Little Niyati had suffered serious injuries to her head and brain and she died the next day, police said.
Homicide detectives were called in soon after to investigate.
Nandini Jha, 35, is charged with second-degree murder.
She is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Mississauga is located just west of Toronto.
