OTTAWA -- A Carp, ON-area woman pleaded guilty to dangerous driving Monday for a crash in which she rolled her car in a suicide bid with her two children on board.

The 27-year-old mom later told police she wanted to kill herself, but did not want to harm her children.

She had an argument with her mother Feb. 13, 2012, before leaving with her 11-month-old son and six-year-old daughter.

According to the little girl, her mother said she wanted to kill herself before getting into the vehicle.

Once in the car, she accelerated then veered across the road.

Passersby spotted the car on its side in a field about 20 metres off the road. The Mazda3 was badly damaged with the roof caved in, the windshield shattered and both airbags deployed.

"Incredibly," according to the police report, neither child was hurt.

The mom suffered cuts and bruises to her forehead, and was assessed by a psychiatrist.

She was released later in the day but voluntarily admitted herself for further treatment soon afterwards.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 10.
