A Sudbury, Ont., man with a bad sense of direction was busted for pot possession when he crossed the International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., en route to Thunder Bay, Ont., police say.

When he spoke with American border officers on Wednesday, the man asked "if he could be turned around because he didn't want to enter the United States," Michigan Sault police said.

The man was driving to Thunder Bay for work, became lost "and crossed the International Bridge by mistake," police said.

When his background was checked, a secondary inspection was done.

"A green leafy substance" was found in two plastic bags, police said.

A used pipe, container and rolling papers were also allegedly found.

Marcel Michael Beauparlant, 30, is charged with possession of marijuana.
