CALGARY -- An elderly BC couple drowned and another person is missing after being swept downstream on the Kettle River near Grand Forks, BC, while tubing, Mounties said.

Search and rescue crews and RCMP are still searching for a 50-year-old Scottish man who was carried over waterfalls on the river near Grand Forks, BC, 700 km southwest of Calgary, along with a couple from Christina Lake, BC, while tubing as a large group.

RCMP, BC Ambulance, and Grand Forks Search and Rescue were called to the river near the Trestle Bridge west of Cascade Falls on Saturday where they learned from witnesses that 13 people were tubing when part of the group were swept up.

Witnesses pulled one man, a 74-year-old from Christina Lake, BC, from the water and tried to revive him but were unsuccessful.

Search and rescue crews spotted the body of his 71-year-old wife, but efforts to recover her were held off until Sunday morning.

The second man, a 50-year-old from Scotland, is still missing.

The search continued Sunday.

The names of the deceased and the missing man have not been released.
