Ontario man, 19, dies after ATV crashes into gate

HALIBURTON, ON — A 19-year-old man died Monday after his ATV hit a gate in cottage country northeast of Toronto, police said.

Investigators said Jake Hughes was driving his ATV north of Haliburton near Kennisis Lake when he crashed around 1 p.m.

Hughes, of Welland, ON, was pronounced dead the scene.

A passenger on the ATV was taken to Haliburton hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate the crash, but say they do not suspect alcohol was a factor.

Kennisis Lake is about 240 km northeast of Toronto.
