VANCOUVER -- A convicted Stanley Cup rioter sent his apologies in a typed letter to Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson - a condition of his sentence for taking part in last year's mayhem.

Emmanuel Alviar, 20, told Robertson his actions struck "negative inspiration into all the hearts and minds of the community witnessing (his) crime spree."

The Surrey, BC, man said he succumbed to peer pressure that night - a period he describes as having no "purposeful direction" - but is planning to attend university this fall.

Riot footage shows Alviar attempting to flip over a car as well as kicking garbage at a burning truck. Four young teens were under his care the night he participated in the riot.

He completed a month-long jail sentence in July, but still must serve 16 months probation.
