VANCOUVER - It's not quite the luck of the Irish, however, a Burnaby, BC, family is experiencing some Scottish serendipity after returning from a trip to Britain's northern tip to find they had a lottery ticket worth $25 million.

Lesley Vickars had trouble stringing together more than a few sentences Tuesday when representatives from the BC Lottery Corporation handed her the big cheque.

But the bookkeeper managed to convey she had been using the same numbers for 20 years when she purchased the Aug. 24 Lotto Max ticket ahead of a trip to Scotland with her husband and three grown children.

She was running early for an appointment Monday afternoon after returning home from the vacation when she stopped by a Burnaby lotto kiosk to check the 10-day old ticket.

Although she admitted to being in utter disbelief, she gathered her wits and phoned her husband of 27 years to break the news.

"I think he thought I was in an accident or something," she said about her emotional reaction to the jackpot winnings.

Although she has no idea how the family will spend the enormous prize, Vickars said she knows where it's going.

"We have a very large family," she said, explaining her husband Mark has eight siblings alone. "(The winnings) will be spread around."
