LONDON, ONT -- Too much booze and hot tubbing proved a near fatal combination at a downtown London hotel on the weekend, police said.

A 48-year-old Sudbury, ONT, man remains in hospital in serious condition after emergency workers found him unconscious near the pool in the Hilton Hotel Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses at the King St. hotel said paramedics wheeled out a man on a stretcher before placing him in an ambulance about 12:30 p.m.

"One male patient was transported with life-threatening injuries to Victoria Hospital," paramedic Kelly Dolbear said.

After reviewing surveillance footage, police say alcohol and a lengthy session in the hot tub led to medical distress. Foul play has been ruled out.

Hotel management declined comment.
