Pauingassi man, 52, drowns on Fishing Lake

QMI AGENCY

WINNIPEG -- The body of a 52-year-old Pauingassi First Nation man was pulled from Fishing Lake Friday night.

The man had gone boating between 4 and 5 p.m. on the northern Manitoba lake with another man. High winds and large waves were whipping the boat when its motor stalled. Both men fell from the boat.

One was able to climb back in, restart the motor and go for help.

Neither was wearing a life jacket.  A search for the missing man began around 8:30 p.m.

Local searchers found the body Saturday morning.

The victim’s name won’t be released.

The other boater, a 19-year-old man, was treated for exposure at the local nursing station.

Police continue to investigate.
