VANCOUVER -- Two younger siblings of 1973 murder victim Gale Weys spoke Wednesday of their sister's passion for making the world a better place.

Their comments come a day after Mounties announced a deceased US convict is connected to their sister's case and two more of 18 historic cases of girls and women who went missing or were murdered along BC's so-called Highway of Tears.

The 19-year-old Weys was known as an adventurous, high-achieving volunteer, who'd just begun living independently in Clearwater, BC when her life was taken.

She disappeared on Oct. 19, 1973, and her body was found April 6 the next year, kilometres south of Clearwater, along Highway 5.

Investigators suspect violent offender Bobby Jack Fowler, who died in 2006 behind bars, in her death. DNA has linked Fowler to one Highway of Tears victim already, and he's also a suspect in the death of another 19-year-old.

Younger sisters Denice Weys and Dianne Weddell told reporters how their "tomboy" sibling dreamed of travelling to Mexico to alleviate poverty, and of mothering her own children.

"These dreams and many others yet to be created were never fulfilled, as life was taken from her, and she from us, violently, painfully and abruptly," her family said in their statement.
