Toronto photographer accused in sexual assault at studio, police say

Photographer Douglas Shimuzu, 49, is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a women after a photo shoot at his west end studio

TORONTO — A 49-year-old photographer is accused of plying a model with drugs and sexually assaulting her during a photo shoot at his studio, Toronto police said Thursday.

The alleged victim, a 32-year-old woman, went to the west-end studio., to pose for some photos on Tuesday, police said.

"It's alleged that after the photo shoot, the photographer sexually assaulted the woman," Const. Tony Vella said.

He was unable to comment further on the alleged assault, or the allegation the victim was drugged, because the matter is now before the courts.

Douglas Shimizu was arrested Wednesday afternoon, police said. He's charged with sexual assault and administering a drug for sex.

The accused owns Douglas Shimizu Photography.

According to his website, Shimizu worked "for years was as an agency art (and) creative director" before opening his own "full-service photography studio."

The accused shoots corporate and personal photos.

"We are concerned about the possibility of other victims," Vella said. "That's why we're releasing his picture."

"We're urging anyone who believes they have been victimized by the accused to come forward and talk to us," he added.
