MONTREAL - An inmate of Quebec's Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines federal prison escaped Saturday, Corrections Canada said.

Alex Michaud-Robitaille, 27, had been serving time since April for possessing property obtained through crime, drunk driving and other charges. He received a two-year sentence.

As of Sunday afternoon he was still on the lam from the minimum-security federal prison located about 45 km north of Montreal.

Corrections Canada said prison staff noticed Michaud-Robitaille missing after a routine prisoner count around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Corrections Canada is asking for the public's help in locating Michaud-Robitaille. He is 5-foot-7, 148 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.
