MONTREAL - A driver killed himself and injured four others when he drove his car in the opposite direction of traffic on a Montreal highway early Monday morning.

The 39-year-old driver hit an oncoming car carrying four people and died on impact, provincial police said.

Two of the four people hurt in the crash were in critical condition, while the other two suffered minor injuries.

Provincial police spokeswoman, Christine Coulombe, said investigators don't yet know if the driver was drunk or was deliberately driving against traffic at 3:15 a.m. She said investigators are studying all hypotheses.
