CORNWALL, ON - A Calgary man has been charged with a voyeurism offence for allegedly hiring a private eye to violate a Cornwall, ON, woman's privacy.

Shahzaib Merwat, 24, is alleged to have hired a private investigator to follow a 39-year-old Cornwall woman and obtain inappropriate images of her.

Police say these were "sexual gratification" photos.

Allegedly, the two had met briefly at a conference in 2011, after which Merwat became "obsessive," police said.

The private investigator at an agency in Cornwall was hired in June, but reported the unusual request to police, who then opened an investigation.

Cornwall police travelled to Calgary this past weekend to arrest Merwat.

He was charged on Sunday with counselling to commit voyeurism.

He appeared in Cornwall court Tuesday.
