CALGARY - Jurors in the trial of the psychiatrist, Aubrey Levin, accused of sexual assaulting male patients were shown Friday an enhanced version of a video showing a man's genitals being fondled.

But even though the footage had been upgraded by an audio-visual expert employed by NASA, its sound remained muddy and few words were distinguishable to the ear.

What aired in court Friday was a nearly 15-minute segment of a video shot secretly in mid-March, 2010 on a wristwatch camera worn by a court-ordered patient who accuses Levin of sexually abusing him.
As soon as the video began playing, the alleged victim's mother left the courtroom.

Levin's lawyer, Alain Heppner, asked American audio-visual expert Durand Begault why he focused his skills on that segment of video.

Begault said he doesn't know why, adding only that he was instructed by Calgary police to zero in on those minutes.

Court was told Begault reviewed and updated a transcript of the video originally produced by city police.

On Thursday, jurors sat through more than an hour of largely uneventful video recorded in Levin's office at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary.

Amid the footage from the two 2010 sessions, Levin can be seen alternately probing the complainant's abdomen and fondling his penis.

Video DVDs of the patient's visit with Levin earlier that month were released to the media Friday, with the final installment expected to be made public on Monday.

Levin is charged with sexually assaulting 10 male patients between 1999 and 2010.

All had been court-ordered to see him for assessment or treatment.

A police detective testified Wednesday that soon after they viewed the secretly-shot video and laid charges in May, 2010, they received a flood of similar complaints.

Next week, the Crown is expected to summon testimony from a urologist, a forensic psychiatrist, a former colleague of Levin's and the man who produced the wristwatch video.

The trial is expected to last three weeks.
