SHAWN JEFFORDS | QMI AGENCY

TORONTO - A Mississauga, ON man named Neil Armstrong is facing a slew of charges after holding police at bay with a sword during a 14-hour standoff Monday.

The standoff ended early Tuesday morning when the man is alleged to have jumped from a second-storey of home and led police on a chase.

He was apprehended a short time later, said Const. Fiona Thivierge.

Armstrong, 27, was charged with two counts of breach of probation, two counts of possessing a dangerous weapon and one count of breach of recognizance.

He remains in hospital for assessment and took part in a bail hearing by telephone Tuesday, Peel Regional Police confirmed.

An officer received minor injuries during the chase when he was bit by one of the service's police dogs.
