TORONTO - A coroner's inquest viewed explicit video Wednesday of the treatment of jailed teen Ashley Smith, who killed herself while in federal custody.

The inquest showed the video after a divisional court rejected the objections of the Correctional Service of Canada.

Smith, 19, committed suicide on Oct. 19, 1997, while in solitary confinement at the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener, Ont. Guards watched as she strangled herself with a piece of cloth.

The 32-minute video shows Smith being duct-tapped to seats, forcibly medicated and strapped down for hours in wet clothes with no food.
