Canadian Newtown victim's funeral to be broadcast in Winnipeg

Ana Grace Márquez-Greene, 6, was killed in the Newtown shooting Dec. 14, 2012.

WINNIPEG - Friends and family will gather Saturday to celebrate the life of Ana Márquez-Greene, 6, one of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The ceremony is being held at the First Cathedral in Bloomfield, Conn., but Winnipeg friends will attend a live satellite feed broadcast at Grant Memorial Baptist Church.

The funeral starts at 11 a.m., preceded by a brief welcome and prayer.

"Ana's love for singing was evident before she was even able to talk," family friends wrote in an e-mail Wednesday. "In a musical family, her gift for melody, pitch and rhythm stood out remarkably. And she never walked anywhere -- her mode of transportation was dance."

Ana's parents, Jimmy Greene and Nelba Márquez-Greene, have asked that donations in her memory be made to one of three Connecticut-based funds: The Ana Grace Márquez-Greene Music Scholarship Fund,

The Artist's Collective or the Ana Grace Márquez-Greene Family Therapy Fund.
