CALGARY - Inmates at Drumheller Institution remained on lockdown for a third day Wednesday as officials searched the facility in the wake of five assaults.
Five inmates were attacked in separate assaults just after noon Monday at the medium-security facility about 130 km northeast of Calgary.
“When an incident like this happens they do a more thorough search so it does take a bit longer,” said spokeswoman Dawn Bancroft.
Bancroft couldn’t say if any contraband had been found.
Officials are looking into whether the attacks were coordinated.
Lockdown means the inmates remain in their cells 24 hours a day.
