OWEN SOUND, Ont. -- Visitors to the City of Owen Sound websites got an eyeful Sunday.

City hall is blaming an unknown virus for redirecting people to pornography websites.

“We’ve got our IT people working on it. They have ever since we found this problem out (Sunday). We’re trying to diagnose it and get those sites back up as soon as we can ensure that the unacceptable content won’t be displayed,” financial services director Wayne Ritchie said Monday.

He said several people called city councillors Sunday to alert them to the problem.

Information technology staff were then informed and immediately shut down all city-run websites, including the Owen Sound Tourism and Owen Sound Police Services pages.

Ritchie said he is unsure how long the sites will be down.
