EDMONTON -- A Hobbema man is facing second -degree charges related to the shooting death of a 16-year-old earlier this month.

Lindsey Allen Bruno, 19, was arrested Tuesday on the Samson Cree Nation, Hobbema RCMP Cpl. Martin Girard said.

Levonne Baptiste was found in a home on the First Nation at 4:15 a.m. on Feb. 2 after police were called for a firearms complaint. He was suffering from gunshot wounds and died later in hospital.

A Canada-wide warrant was put out for Bruno's arrest Feb. 8.

Police have said the shooting was gang-related, noting Bruno and Baptiste likely knew each other.

The killing is just one incident in a community that has seen its fair share of gun violence.

In 2008, 23-month-old Asia Saddleback was hit by a stray bullet that, despite not killing her, remains lodged near her spine.

In 2012, three teens pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of five-year-old Ethan Yellowbird who was struck by a bullet in his sleep when a drive-by shooting went awry.

The community later voted in favour of giving the local band council the power to evict known troublemakers from the reserve if an application is made by 25 band members.

It has yet to evict anyone.

Bruno is in police custody awaiting his first appearance in court.
