Canadians could do with a little less hockey and a little more tonsil-hockey, a new poll has found.

In a poll of 1,163 Canadians on the romantic social networking site Zoosk, 88% said they wished their partners would take the initiative and kiss them more often.

But some Canadians might just be too passive to get the action they want. Only 55% of women said they initiate kisses, compared to 76% of men.

"Kissing is that initial indicator that shows how much chemistry you have for one another," dating and relationship expert Shannon Tebb said in a press release.

"Great kissing chemistry often leads to passionate physical intimacy, which is a key component for a healthy romantic relationship."

Canadian men prefer a sensual kiss on the lips, while women crave tongue action, or a "French kiss," the survey found.

Just over half, 54%, of Canadians like to lock lips on the first date, while 47% tend not to. We're more forward than our international counterparts. Just 29% of people in
Germany will kiss on the first date, 32% in France, 37% in Denmark, 42% in Italy and 47% in Sweden.

What's more, we don't care who sees our public displays of affection, with 93% of Canadians saying kissing in public is just fine.

Zoosk surveyed 13,332 users worldwide including 1,163 Canadians, between May 22 and June 11.
