Ottawa Police confirm that a suspicious package sent to Conservative Party headquarters in downtown Ottawa contained what appeared to be a human foot Tuesday May 29, 2012. A Tory staffer partially opened a package late Tuesday morning to make the horrifying discovery, releasing an overwhelming stench that made several people feel sick.

OTTAWA - As Conservatives press on with their work, the grisly discovery of a human foot in a box mailed to national party headquarters here Tuesday is never far from their minds.
"Even insofar as a homicides go, it's quite an unusual circumstance," Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said.
Toews said what happened is disturbing, but he won't say if the party should beef up its security.
"I'm not prepared to discuss any security concerns," Toews said. "There are obviously always security plans in place and initiatives in place, but all I can reiterate is that this is an ongoing criminal investigation and it would be inappropriate for me to comment any farther."
His comments come as police investigate the foot sent to Tory headquarters downtown, along with a hand in a package intercepted at the city's postal sorting station Tuesday evening.
Police say both the hand and foot were sent from Montreal, but they haven't confirmed that both parts are from the same body, or if they're related to a decomposing human torso found in Montreal on Tuesday.
