TORONTO -- Prime Minister Stephen Harper snubbed Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's Summit of the Gun and will meet with Toronto Mayor Rob Ford on his own.

An official with the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said the "timing did not work out for (Monday's) meeting."
Ford and Harper will meet at 43 Division in the east end on Tuesday at 12:40 p.m.

Ford's office said the meeting came at their request.
Officials with McGuinty's office confirmed the PMO declined Sunday to attend the gun meeting.

"We would have preferred they attend," a provincial official said of the feds.

McGuinty said Friday he was certain someone from Ottawa would come down for the meeting, called to address a brutal spike in violence in the city over the past few weeks, especially shootings.

The worst shooting came July 16 when 25 people were shot at a street party.

Shyanne Charles, 14, and Joshua Yasay, 23, were killed in the shooting.
