TORONTO – A private member's bill called "Jayesh's Law” to be introduced Thursday would require customers in Ontario to pre-pay for gas before pumping, Liberal MPP Mike Colle said.

Colle's bill would also slap severe penalties on gas-station owners who make their employees pay for gas thefts, according to a news release issued from Colle's office.

Jayesh Prajapati, 44, was struck and killed Saturday attempting to stop a motorist who left a Toronto gas station without paying for $112.85 in fuel — what's known as a gas-and-dash.

The Worker Safety at Gas Station bill also calls for the suspension of driver's licenses for individuals convicted of gas theft.

Prajapati's family will be at a media conference Thursday to support the bill, and friends will announce a trust fund, the news release says.
