KINSHASA, Dem. Rep. Congo -- Prime Minister Stephen Harper is laying out how heintends to foster a good relationship with separatist Quebec Premier Pauline Marois.

Harper spoke Sunday about their first face-to-face meeting on the sidelines of the Francophonie summit that took place a day earlier.

"I could say that it was a very warm meeting and most of our meeting was on economic questions," he said.

Harper says his focus will remain on the economy and long-term prosperity instead of Quebec sovereignty.

So, if Marois wants to talk economy, Harper says he's happy to do that.

When Ottawa and Quebec City disagree on issues, Harper says he intends "to respect the jurisdiction of each level of government."

Harper met with Marois on Saturday morning, but reporters had to wait until Sunday to ask him about it.

The prime minister made a quick getaway through the side doors of his hotel Saturday, evading the handful of media at the main entrance.
