LONDON, ON -- Mayor Joe Fontana on Thursday night told CTV he knows nothing about the payments made in 2005 from the federal government totalling more than $20,000.

His response came after a partial version of the story in Friday's Free Press was posted online, and after the newspaper made another attempt -- in person at a public meeting -- to get his comment.

"In my 18 years in Parliament, I have a stellar reputation . . . with taxpayer dollars," he said, insisting "no one's ever talked to me" about the issue. He said 2005 "is seven-and-a-half years ago."

He said parents and their children are responsible for paying their wedding reception bills.
