Sporting a green shirt and bowtie, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield went Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day Sunday.

"Maidin mhaith from the International Space Station! Happy Saint Patrick's Day to the Irish all around the globe. Good morning!" he tweeted from the International Space Station.

Aside from sharing a photo of him "wearing the green," Hadfield also tweeted aerial shots of Donegal, Derry and Tralee.

Hadfield added a personal touch to the celebrations happening around the world below him by sharing his version of Danny Boy.

"Danny Boy strikes home with me, now more than ever. I've recorded a version for today in orbit," he tweeted.

Accompanying himself on guitar, Hadfield's interpretation drew raves from everyone who's following him.
"Beautiful, I had goosebumps and tears. thank-you and Erin Go Bragh Commander!" read one comment. Erin Go Bragh is Gaelic for 'Ireland Forever.'

Another person wrote: "You are so Amazing, from a fellow Canadian may I say I am so proud and sooo very jealous, thanks for showing us the universe!!"

Hadfield took command of the ISS on Wednesday - the first Canadian to do so.

He is due back on Earth in May.
