Dean Torresan - along with sons Dalin, 16, and Logan, 13 - are in training mode after making it to the top of the heap at the Canadian National Armwrestling Championships during the Canada Day weekend.
Torresan, now 44, said after qualifying for Worlds at the ages of 18 and 19, he never seized the opportunity.
Now he's set to take on the best of the best in Brazil in September, alongside his two sons, who encouraged him to get back in the ring.
"I'm classifying this as: I've qualified for Worlds, whatever comes, that is bonus to me," he said. "Even if I went last, which I hope I don't, I'm just proud I have finally came to what I've always wanted to do."
Both Dalin and Logan won gold for both arms in their weight division, while Dean won a silver for his left and a bronze for his right in the masters category.
Flights and accommodation to get the family to Brazil will be costly, said wife Carole, but already people are donating to help.
"We're off to a good start. We don't have much time to raise the money to go," she said, adding that they're also trying to get the word out about the sport.
The World Wrestling Championships run Sept. 9 to 17 in Sao Vincente, Brazil.
