A couple grieving their stillborn baby claims the hospital and mortuary lost the infant's corpse.

LaNette Merriman and Terrel Howard, of St. Louis, Mo., have filed suit against Barnes Jewish Hospital and the Austin A. Layne Mortuary, Courthouse News Service reports.

Merriman gave birth Dec. 22, 2011, and made arrangements to have a fetopsy performed to determine the cause of death. The mortuary was then to pick up the body for a funeral and burial.

When she called the mortuary, she discovered no one knew where the remains were, according to the report, which quotes the complaint: "To this date, the body of Baby Merriman has not been found."

The couple is seeking compensation for pain and suffering and emotional distress, the report said.
