A Nepalese farmer was surprised by a cobra that bit him while he was in his rice paddy -- but it was the snake that got the greater surprise as the farmer returned later and bit it to death.

"When I realized that a snake had bit me, I went home to get a (flashlight) and saw that it was a cobra. So I bit it to death," farmer Mohammed Salmodin told the BBC.

"A snake charmer told me that if a snake bites you, bite it until it is dead and nothing will happen to you," he said.

Salmodin said that after he bit the cobra he continued with his daily business as usual and only agreed to go to the hospital after being pressured to by his family, friends and police.

Officials said he won't face charges because the snake was not endangered, the BBC reported.

Salmodin bit the cobra on Tuesday in a village 200 km southeast of Kathmandu.
