US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton arrived in Israel Tuesday to meet with officials in the region, in hopes of bringing a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel closer.

Clinton is calling for a durable solution to the problems between the two sides. She is meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as Egyptian and Palestinian officials in an effort to prevent a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip as continuing airstrikes put the situation on the brink of war.

Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore echoed Prime Minister Stephen Harper's statements on the conflict Monday, reiterating that the Canadian government stands with Israel.
