A PEI senior died in hospital Monday after he was struck on the head and robbed while visiting St. Lucia, police said.

Colin Peter, 75, was walking along the beach with his wife last Thursday afternoon when he was attacked, St. Lucia police spokeswoman Aniel Innocent said Wednesday.

He was taken to hospital where he later died. His wife was not injured.

The man's camera and wallet were stolen.

St. Lucia's DBS TV reported Peter and his spouse were on the island tracing his family roots and staying at a private residence.

Police continue to search for suspects.

A security guard working at a hotel nearby said she saw Peter with a big hole in the back of his head right after the attack and called for help, DBS TV reported.

The victim's wife remains on the island and is in contact with government officials and police.
