An 18-year-old Florida woman trying to make some waffles Monday night ended up in hospital after she was injured by an exploding bullet from a gun magazine that her friend left in the oven.

Aalaya Walker turned the oven on shortly after 9 p.m. Monday and soon heard an explosion, the Tampa Bay Times reported. She picked pieces of at least one round from her chest and leg and went to hospital, the newspaper reported.

Walker's friend Javarski Sandy had put a magazine from his .45-calibre Glock 21 in the oven, he told police. There were four rounds in the magazine.

Police said Walker's wounds were superficial. No one was arrested.
