California girl punished for twerking at school dance

An 11-year-old girl was forced to wear a sign at a busy intersection after twerking at a school dance against her mother's wishes, ABC News reported.

The Bakersfield, CA, girl spent two hours holding the sign Monday afternoon, which said she'd disrespected her parents, the station reported.

"I want her to realize that she is just a child and that she can't do that," her mother, Francis Hena, told the broadcaster.

Hena said it's "ridiculous" that her daughter, Jamie, thought it was appropriate to dance in such a provocative style at a school function.

Twerking, which involves pelvic thrusts, came to international attention when Miley Cyrus performed the moves during the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25.

Hena said she is also upset at Jamie's school for not doing anything about it during or after the dance.
